Module 00 · lesson 8
Recap: how our database will grow along with you
Right now all of GadgetHub is a single products table. But the store is growing: soon there will be customers, orders, payments. Will the database keep up with the business?
What you can already do
Over this module you've learned quite a bit:
- to see data as a table (columns and rows);
- to read it with
SELECT; - to tell data types apart;
- to understand the primary key (
id) andNULL.
This is the foundation — there's plenty to build on it next.
The database grows along with you
In this course the database isn't static — it grows, like a real product. With every big topic the store adds something new:
- Now — just
products. - Next —
customers, thenordersandorder_items. - Later — payments, inventory, analytics, scaling.
It's one and the same system, growing more complex step by step.
Changes to the database's structure over time are called migrations (there's a whole module about them).
What's next
The main thing right now is reading data: everything that follows rests on it.
Module 0 is complete! You can see data as a table and read it — and the next module will deepen SELECT.
Summary
- You've mastered the basics: the table,
SELECT, types, the key,NULL. - The course's database will grow gradually — like a real product.
- Changes to the schema over time are called migrations.
