Module 00 · lesson 4
Your first query: meet the sandbox
The founder asks: "Just show me a list of all the product names, nothing extra." In lesson 3 you saw the whole table — now pick out only what's needed from it. And this time you'll write the query yourself.
The sandbox
The editor on the right is where you write queries. You type SQL, press "Run" — and the result appears in the table below the editor.
Selecting only what you need
In lesson 3, SELECT * showed every column. But often you don't need everything. To take specific columns, we write their names instead of *:
SELECT <column> FROM <table>;
For example, SELECT price FROM products; returns just the prices — one column, nothing extra.
Your turn
The founder wants the product names. The column with the names is called name. Build the query yourself using the pattern above and press "Run".
Summary
- To take a specific column, list it instead of
*. - For example:
SELECT price FROM products.
